Jae-Yeong was so tired. He probably shouldn't have stayed up late gaming. That was always his downfall. He had such a hard time telling himself to go to bed. The end result was always him never really getting enough sleep. It was why he was stumbling into the local bakery. They made the best things for breakfast and they were always so fresh in the morning. Like he could pass up a good breakfast before he had to go to his classes at the community college.

He yawned as he waited in line. He was glad it was his turn and he was able to order a cheese bagel with cream cheese, a cinnamon roll, a Boston cream donut, and a cup of tea. He was handed his cup of tea shortly after he paid and settled down at a table to wait for his order to be ready. It was rather full of people for first thing in the morning. He only got a table because the occupants were leaving as he got his drink.

He was happy that it didn't take long for his order to be up and he could return back to the table to eat. He placed his feet atop his backpack. He probably looked like a high schooler extremely late for school but not caring about it. He came here enough for them to stop mistaking him for a high schooler. It was always annoying. Just because he wasn't exactly tall and had a baby face didn't mean he was as young as he looked.

Jae had just taken a bite of his bagel when an unfamiliar voice spoke to him.

Ughs, morning. How she was not a morning person. People complained about it a little too often but then, maybe they shouldn't schedule her for the mornings at the reception desk. It truly wasn't her fault that she liked to stay out and party. Besides, she didn't know what had gotten into the air of Beacon Hills or maybe it was something in the water, but cute guys were just starting to sprout up all over the place like wild flowers. It's not as if it was Kayla's fault that she had to go and talk to them, and then stay out late with them. Not to mention, it's not like she had much to worry about, she could take care of herself, and unlike werewolves, hunters barely seemed to pay heed to the shifter world. Seeing as most of them were in control of their animal counterparts, Kayla was certain that many of them just remained utter myths to the humans, or at least, the werebear was.

Staring through the world through amber lenses, Kayla took off her aviators for a moment to glance around the street. She had been pondering breakfast, wondering if she should be healthy or not. Yet the moment that her gray eyes caught sight of the Cake and Bake, it was kinda hard not to. While the young woman would admit that she hardly got along with the owner (there was just something about her that rubbed Kayla's alpha girl personality wrong), she could not deny the fact that they had wonderful cupcakes. Red Velvet, by far her favorite when it came with creme cheese frosting. Just thinking about the tiny little cake made her mouth water a little, and all thoughts about eating healthy just jumped right out the window. Plus, she was a bear after all, it's not as if they had the best eating habits to begin with.

The young woman made her way over to the store front now, cutting across the street without paying much heed to the traffic. If anything, she could stop traffic, looks or with strength otherwise, or so that was what she told herself. Pushing the door open, the bell rang and her eyes scanned the area. No Karlie in sight, perhaps she truly was safe. So much for hating the mornings, cupcakes made everything better. Cupcakes and coffee. Probably the vary definition of crack as she knew it, since well, Kayla wouldn't lie, this is where all of her money went to when it wasn't booze and club fees to score beautiful men for a night. Paying for her things, the young woman turned to head to her usual spot but found herself stopping quite abruptly. Grey eyes just stared at the absurd scene that she was staring at right now: somebody was in her fucking seat.

Already, she could feel her temper flare a little bit, taking her back to high school and college where people just respected her seat and didn't sit in it, they didn't dare cross her at all. How she hated being done with school, being just some simple girl that people didn't think twice about when they really should. Glowering, Kayla just flipped her hair over her shoulder, making sure that it was out of the way for her rage attack now. Walking over, Kayla stopped and just stared down at the individual now. Although, there was something weird, she could sense it, the animal instinct settling and all what she could think of was one thing: bear. Her lips twisted a little, "You're in my seat," Kayla stated bluntly, as if she owned the world right then, "And shouldn't you be in school with the rest of your little high school friends?" After all, he looked like he belonged in high school, still she found herself wondering if he could sense what she is, just like she could with him.

The video game from last night was still playing in his head. He was still trying to formulate how to beat the next stage of his game. It was never ending and it tended to cause many late nights like this. And he was just going to drag the entire day. He wasn't even sure if he would make through it. Perhaps he could name in the evening, that sounded like a good idea.

He was timing everything so close. He knew he was have an hour tops to spend here and with commute to the college. He honestly didn't want to go to class. He wouldn't do anything except code and do work that had nothing to do with what he was learning. He was a genius, self proclaimed genius. And he really wasn't taking interesting classes. Quite honestly, the food he was gazing at was more interesting.

Oh how he was actually quite excited to eat. His body was demanding food. He honestly hated how he usually was eating something. But the food here was usually enough to keep him satisfied until his first break and he could get food again. Of course, he got stopped in the middle of his eating by a voice.

He had to refrain the urge to growl. It was a weird urge that struck him when he was tired. The action was in his throat, when a sniff of the air made him reconsider his action. He turned his attention to the person who spoke to him. "You didn't mark it as your's." Jae challenged back. He knew it wasn't just something real bears did. It was perhaps a very odd thing to say to anyone who wasn't a shifter, but Jae knew one when he smelt it.

"Also, I'm out of high school. I work IT." He watched the elder girl, as if trying to figure her out. "I wasn't really aware there were other in town like me and my family." He was careful with his words. It seemed like an innocent enough remark. But it held a much deeper meaning. He had honestly never met another werebear before.

For a moment there, she thought he might actually growl at her. Kayla Summers stood there watching with her narrowed eyes, waiting for that guttural sound that they alone knew that they were capable of. Surely though, someone wouldn't be so stupid to do that in public with humans about, or more importantly, to her. After all, it's not as if she were just some child. She was an adult, and better yet, a grizzly, something that this boy was not even if he was a bear like her. But no growl escaped him, instead he simply spoke back but the words, well, his choice of words wasn't exactly smart, "Excuse me?" Kayla asked now, and there was indeed an ugly growl lingering in her voice, "Maybe that's because people are smart enough to not sit there, unlike yourself." Of course, she wasn't really used to people challenging her back either. This was a strange case indeed for the life of Kayla Summers.

And then he proceeded to tell her that he was out of high school, "Seriously? You look twelve," she replied now, that growl gone but her voice still carried the typical mean girl attitude. She couldn't help herself, she was now just in a foul mood. Someone was sitting at her table, and they weren't getting up. They still kept on sitting there. People had always moved, people had always obliged her wishes and yet here there was some guy who wasn't budging. It was like he was one of those silly rebels that thought that they were better than her even though they hadn't been popular at all. And here she thought she had escaped that. Her lips were still twisted in displeasure as the two of them eyed each other in some sort of stand off, or at least she thought she was in a stand off, the boy just seemed to be trying to figure her out which wouldn't be a surprise, Kayla liked to think that she was a mystery some times.

And then came that little statement. He seemed careful enough with his words, as if other might be listening or maybe he was just trying to not get her riled up any more than he already have. Really, it was hard to tell, "I think we're an elusive breed," she stated now. That is the beauty of being a shifter after all, one could blend right in and not even be suspected, unlike a werewolf or some other creatures with their humanoid appearances. While it would be a lie to say that she had never been shot at, the type of hunter she had attracted was a normal one, looking for game rather the supernatural variety, "You're not the same as me though, you're still different." And with that, she took a seat from across the boy now. If he wasn't going to move, then she was going to sit here with him. Kayla could only hope now that it wouldn't ruin her image, sitting with a boy when she was always on the prowl, "But you and I are not the same, and I should warn you, this little town as more to offer than us the two of us and your family." Although, perhaps they had already figured that out.

Jae's mind was quick to kick in and stop him from growling. He wasn't that tired that the smell that hit his nose went right over his head. No. It was actually intriguing. The smell was a familiar one and it made him curious.

He wasn't the type to back down. He was a rather gentle guy and never really liked to hurt people, but he wasn't afraid to butt heads with one of his own. Especially one who was territorial over a place that wasn't marked. He had no plans of marking it as his own, as that would be rude. "Or no one has felt like challenging you before." He raised an eyebrow. "I'm not afraid of you, you know." Besides, they were in public. He doubted she would try something. There had been a weird increase in Hunters and not even Jae was dumb enough to do anything but act human while out of his own home.

Again with the insults of his appearance. Jae just smiled a bright smile. "It's because I'm Asian," he concluded. It was the easiest way to explain it. He'd look extremely young until he was in his fifties and then he'd either still look young or he'd look ancient. He was praying he'd still look young because even he was creeped out by his grandparents.

Jae-Yeong paused for a minute, after listening the words. He then let out a gentle laugh. He smiled brightly. "I have lived here since birth." His eyes sparkled. "I love how this town is, full of..." He tried to think of the best word. "different types of people." He smiled brightly. "And I know we're different." His smile turned into a grin, "Our difference in race already gave that away." He knew she wasn't a Moon Bear. No. He had never met a non-Asian Moon Bear. He discovered a small group of Russian Moon Bears, but most he ever encountered were Asian.

It was very strange, knowing that there was another werebear in town. Kayla wasn't sure if she liked it, that didn't make her very unique at all now and where was the fun in that? Not to mention, if this little guy messed things up and hunters started looking at bears, then what? Would she just have to pack up and leave? That wouldn't be fair at all, especially when she had been tracking herself some rather nice guys. Although truth be told, with her little fits of rage, she was just as likely to hurt any one as he was. The frown continued to set on her lips, which probably did little to nothing for her features if anyone was watching them. It only grew though and her eye brows furrowed while her grey eyes narrowed at his words.

"Oh, you should be," she replied back, "Regardless of who you are." Nobody talked to her that way, no bear or human otherwise. She demanded respect, plus, Kayla never took well to challenges. It reminded her of high school and college when girls thought they were dumb enough to try and take her crown. Although, this wasn't a girl, this was a guy, who just also happened to be a fellow bear. So she went on to insult him yet again, only this time she got hit with the asian remark, and now Kayla didn't even know on what to say other than roll her eyes. If that was bait, she wasn't going to fall for that, but even the young woman felt the need to retract, just a little, "That was not where I was going with that."

And that right there, almost felt like a truce, for now. And not to mention, despite her hostility, she was curious about this boy so she sat down at her table, because let's not forget that important detail. And naturally, he had lived in Beacon Hills since birth, so if it was anybody intruding on any territory, it was her. Ughs, this wasn't fun, at least he wasn't pointing that one out to her right at the moment. A slight smile twitched on her lips, "Well, I guess we can agree about that. Although, I have to say, I'm not a fan of the bad people showing up here either." Or the bad creatures, but hunters themselves were her main worry. After all, nobody wants to get shot with a silver bullet.

He did however, say something quite curious now about their races tying with with what sort of breeds they were. Different and yet the same. Kayla hadn't even thought of it like that, but the more she thought about it, it did make sense. A grizzly bear probably was probably about as American as you could get, or well, white. There were polar bears though, and black bears, they were all geographically correct. But then what did that make this kid then, a panda? No, that was just stereotyping, but she was intrigued. But if that were really the case, she suppose that she should introduce herself, "I'm Kayla. Kayla Summers."

Unlike Kayla who felt it strange, Jae was actually excited knowing that there were more bears than just his family. He could overlook her grumpy exterior. He liked to see the good in people, and he was sure that she was actually a good person. He had intruded on the space she called her own, although he didn't believe in things like that outside of wildnerness. Public places were free to anyone, but the woods... That was a whole different deal. He himself was actually quite protective of a lake in the woods behind his house.

The Asian male just smiled brightly. Surely she thought him foolish for smiling at her words, but he really didn't feel fear in the least, at least not for her. "No. I don't fear you. I've faced real fear and you don't compare." No. She didn't compare to being hunted, getting shot right in the chest. Next to that, Kayla was like a walk in the park. He knew bears could be just as vicious, because they were bears. But he could protect himself from one of his own.

The male just chuckled, "I know. Just it is easiest to use my genetics to explain it. I don't take offense." He didn't. He was Asian, the whole world knew it. There was no hiding it. He never felt insulted by the stereotypes people used. He just allowed them to roll off him like waves. It always amused him when others felt insulted in his place.

His smile grew when she finally took a seat. It probably had looked odd for her to be standing while he was sitting. But his smile faltered when she had to go and mention bad people. He knew what she was talking of. Demons, werewolves, and hunters. "Oh, trust me. I'm not thrilled myself. This town was peaceful, but it hasn't been lately. It's getting worse." There was no smile on his lips as he said the words. He was dead serious. He feared about how bad this town would actually get before some hope could return.

Jae-Yeong brushed some strands of hair from his face and sipped on his tea. He glanced from the table to the other werebear as she offered her name. "I'm Jae-Yeong Shin, but you can call me Jae." He offered her a smile. "I wonder what brought so many new people to Beacon Hills? Was it a weird calling? Some unknown force pull them here?" He was curious. He doubted even Kayla could answer his questions.
