The loneliest people are the kindest
The saddest people smile the brightest
The most damaged people are the wisest
All because they do not wish to see others suffer the way they do

Isaac wondered when the nightmares would end. When he would feel safe again. There were so many thoughts that swam through his head that caused him such distress. He didn't even know how to tell Derek about half of them. He wasn't even sure if he could.
He honestly liked this side of Derek, this side he rarely showed. It was gentle but stern, it was like an anchor in a storm. He was stable while Isaac was in turmoil. He seemed to know what to say, how to react, that put the young werewolf at ease. And it actually worked. As Isaac managed to calm down rather quickly as they talked.
"She was." Isaac missed his mother. He spent so many years wondering what he did wrong, what he did to make her leave. He still wondered if she was out there somewhere, but had no hope of her returning. His dad had driven her away and Isaac came to terms with the fact she would never return for him. Why would she.
Isaac nodded at the words. He couldn't stop Derek from looking into it. Part of him wanted to, sure. He didn't want Derek to waste his time. But another part of him knew it would be futile. He decided to drop it. There was no use in arguing with his Alpha, he was sure he would lose anyway. It was always easier to just accept defeat than to continue to fight, especially when the battle was futile. He had learned that the hard way growing up.
Getting the boxes was mindless, sure. But it was why he was able to think, the wheels in his mind churnning and giving bad results. It made him distress, worry about the words the other had spoken. He wanted to believe that Derek would take him with him after all they've been through. He didn't want to go back to that house. He didn't want to step foot in there, even though it was rightfully his although he was trying to get rid of it for good.
And how he wanted to cry when he heard the words. He actually was relieved at the words. He shifted uncomfortably at the question. How was he to actually tell Derek that yes, he really had thought that Derek would leave him to fend for himself. It wouldn't be the first time someone had left him behind to strike out anew.
He relaxed at the joke. He even smiled shyly. He knew it was a joke and it actually made him relax. Derek wasn't going to leave him behind. Derek would actually take him with him. Isaac actually wanted to soak in the happiness. He actually hadn't felt this emotion much and didn't want it to go. He felt wanted, but, above all else, he felt content.
"Are there more boxes that have to get brought in?" Isaac's mode was completely different from before. It wasn't hard to tell he was happier. Sure, there was still some shyness, but he wasn't as depressed as before. He wasn't sad.
