It was way too quiet in the library. But...that's how they're supposed to be, right? Right. 'Cept Ryder Crowe didn't really consider all the racket he was making as he made his way into the building 'o' books. First bumping into a cart of returned books and videos, then tripping over his own feet, then dropping his faded leather backpack -after- once again bumping into something; this time the corner of a table.
Everybody turned to stare and the library lady even shushed him with a finger to her pursed lips and got a deep furrow in her unplucked mono-brow. Ryder winced, thinking to himself that the woman was possibly more horrifying than the monster he was here to research. He lifted a hand and kind of bowed his head in a quiet apology, and quickly made his way to a table in the back. Sighing, the young hunter dropped his pack on the table top and cursed too loud when he got another 'SHUSH', and covered his mouth when the library lady gave him a look for the curse word.
Freakin' A he could use a drink, which was exactly what he did. Ryder dug into his pack and pulled out a silver flask. He twisted it open and looked around to make sure the Gorgon wasn't looking, then took a long swallow of the liquor before tucking it away again. Oh yeah, that was better. Especially considering he was already real buzzed to begin with. Yeah...he'd been drinking most of the day.
But he needed focus and research, so here he was. The hunter slouched down into his seat and pulled the newspapers out of his bag to spread them across the table before him. Each one had a story about a mysterious death involving people that had been mourning ( or god knew what else) in grave yards late at night. The young man was stumped. He really didn't know where to start. The whole cliché about boogeymen hanging out in cemeteries at night wasn't just a bedtime story. There were several monsters that preferred to hunt there.
Without even thinking, as Ry read through the articles again he reached for the flask; pulling it out and taking a swig and going to shove it back in his bag but instead accidentally knocking the pack on the ground.
Another round of SHUSHING and another really stern look. Holy Hell. He was about to get his ass kicked out of the library for godsake.

Allison was working on her history homework, and essay to be exact when she heard some loud thudding, and looked up. To say that her face masked her feelings would be a true thing to say. She was now infuriated. There her older cousin, Ryder, who mind you had his own share of issues at the moment, was bumbling around like the town drunk. Allison watched him for a few minutes, because she was uncertain if he had spotted her or not. Then she saw his hand flash down and get a flask. A FLASK. And that had done it for her. Allison marched over to where he was, and full on glared at him. She didn't speak for what seemed for years. "Got homework?" she asked, hoping that he would at least understand that she wasn't really talking about homework.
She didn't wait for his reply. "Hand it over." she said meaning the flask. She held her hand out and stared at him with a look that dared him to challenge her. She may have been younger, but she was also the one who was sober at the moment. "Damn it Ry..I know that you are going through a really tough time right now, but I need you to focus!" She whispered to him angerly. He had a daughter for christ sake and here he was in the middle of the day drinking! "Unless you want your grumpy old Uncle on your ass I suggest you listen to me. The drinking..it stops, and it stops now."
Allison really hoped that this got through to him. She wasn't one who normally took charge like this, but she would be the tough bitch when it came to her family. After all, weren't women the leaders? If that was the case, then Ryder wouldn't question her.

One minute Ryder was minding his own damn business, trying his best to clean up the mess he had made as quietly as possible without notice; the next his cousin Allison was standing over him; hissing out venom and shooting daggers at him with her bright, angry eyes. When she asked about homework he was about to explain that yes, in fact he did have some, but she didn't give him a chance before making demands from him as if she was his mama. Who the hell did she think she was?! The tawny haired hunter snorted in disbelief and shook his head, tilting his face up to her with a smug expression. "I'm not handing over shit" He slurred at her and to prove his point, reached into the bag to grab the flask, taking another quick pull before tucking it away again. "And I was just about to focus before you interrupted. Now why don't you go away and worry about your high school bullshit and I'll worry about the grown-up stuff."
Yeah, he was being cruel, but it was a natural intoxicated reaction to her scrunched up face and the hands on her hips. Besides, he was an adult and he could freaking deal with shit however he chose. If it was getting a little buzz on to numb the pain, then damn it that's what he was gon' effin' do!

Allison's glare intensified as her cousin's words came tumbling out of his mouth in a slur. She didn't want to have to resort to having to take things into her own hands, but she would. Once she saw where he stashed the flask, she leaned over grabbed the bag, took the flask. turned and headed to the nearest bathroom and poured out the remaining alcohol. She then came back to where her cousin was sitting and threw the empty flask down at him. "Before you speak, I advise you think. I am one second away from calling my father and letting him know that you are in no condition to take care of your daughter. I don't like being mean to you Ry.. you should know that I am the last one to comment on anybody's personal life, but you have gone to far." She let that sink in and then went back to her table.
Allison gathered her belongings and then went back to her cousin's table and sat down beside him. "As much as you hate to admit it, I'm right." she said, as she started to type things into the computer. Mainly she was now looking for an AA meeting for her older cousin to go to. She hated seeing him like this, hated that he was in so much pain that he had to resort to becoming a drunk. Then she thought of something. " You don't think that I'm in pain like you? I've lost my mother, and my aunt in less then a month apart from each other. And you know the worse part is that my Grandfather is an asshole who told my mother to kill herself..so while I understand your pain, try to think that you're not the only one in this family suffering."
Allison was suddenly overcome by everything, and she found that tears were pouring down her face. As much as she hated what her mother had done, she still missed her. Allison found herself wanting to run to Scott and hug him,and cry on his shoulder. But she knew as long as her cousin's were around she couldn't do any such thing. She knew that her father had at least been right about that.

Even if the hunter had been completely sober he wouldn't have expected the feisty girl to do what she did next. Ryder was satisfied with the tongue-lashing he'd given Allison and was sitting all laid back and comfy in his plastic desk chair when his cousin reached over, grabbed the flask, and stormed into the public bathroom. He blinked, too drunk to react quickly enough to stop her, and just sat there with his jaw hanging open until she stalked back to the table and tossed the empty down before him.
He scoffed, about to give her hell when she went on to threaten him with Uncle Argent...who didn't scare him one bit...okay maybe just a little. It was the care of his daughter thrown in his face that finally got to him, and the young man clamped his mouth shut and narrowed his eyes angrily at her. Oh really? She thought he had gone too far? Honestly she couldn't even begin to fathom how remote the depths of his depravity went. Ryder watched her return to her table and gather her things only to come right back to his side of the library. He was still fuming when she sat down across from him and opened her laptop to start type-typing away.
"Just so you know, Jay is being cared for by my big sister and your older cousin so YOU don't know what you're talking about." He told her gruffly; pouting...yes, pouting.
He wanted to stay angry at her. He really, REALLY did. Ry imagined grabbing up his things and walking right out of there and leaving her with the knowledge that he was heading straight to the bar after this. Or else straight to the unopened bottle of Crown Royal in the cupboard of his loft apartment. That was until she stopped typing furiously and brought up the recent deaths of her family-- his family, and tears began streaming down her face. The hunter had once been the kind of guy that you went to first for a shoulder to cry on. He had always been the strong, quiet man that could easily offer comfort, a good laugh, or a kind word. But at this point that guy was so far removed from the man that sat before her he didn't know how to handle her tears.
Licking his lips to moisten them, Ryder shifted uncomfortably in his seat and cleared his throat. " You're right. I'm not the only one suffering." The words were understanding, but unfortunately his tone of voice and the emptiness in his silvery eyes was cold as ice. "And we all handle the pain differently, don't we?"
At that Ry picked up the empty flask and shook it about before tossing it into his leather pack. "Look Ali, I'm a grown man and I can handle my business. Maybe its the wrong way but its MY way. I don't need your help. I don't want it. My daughter is in good hands with my sisters so don't worry about her. As a matter-of-fact, you ever threaten me about her again and I don't care that we're cousins..."
Ryder didn't bother to finish the sentence but the warning was made clear by the menacing expression on his handsome visage. Yeah, he was little peeved about her getting all into his shit.

Maybe she went to far with the threatening of taking Jay away from him. But she thought it finally sunk in. But then he turned on her and was rude again. Allison stood up as well, slamming her laptop shut and grabbing her own books. She stared at her older cousin and then leaned in. " You don't have to worry about me bothering you again. I won't..I won't even talk to you till you get yourself fucking fixed Ry. So be happy, you just lost yet another family member due to your lack of brains." Allison turned on her heels and started to go out of the library. Why did it have to be that every man in her family had to be so thick headed and one train thought-ed? She would have to talk to Chey about this, or Samara. She wondered if they even knew how much of a drunk he was becoming.
Allison shook her head, trying to calm herself down, but it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. She found herself punching at a wall, and hearing a sickening crunch sound. The next minute her eyes were welling up with tears from the pain that she was feeling. Why did she have to do that? Why did she have to go and punch a wall. Allison dropped her belongings on to the ground and tried to make it look like she had just dropped something, she didn't want the whole library to see how stupid she had been right then. But no matter how much she tried, she couldn't help but full out cry.
"Ry!" she whisper yelled. "Ry!" she wasn't sure if he'd even care because at this point she had been an ass to him just as much as he had been to her. But they were family so maybe something about this would reach out to him and he'd help her. She wasn't sure about it, but she was hoping, no praying that he'd snap to and realize that his cousin's hand was pretty much damaged. Allison really didn't think about the consequences when it came to herself most of the time. She tried moving her hand and she let out a big cry. "RYDER!!" she yelled finally, getting a round of be quiets herself.

All the hunter wanted to do was a little research on a monster that was taking out innocent people in the next town. Was it too much to ask for peace and quiet in a library? How in the hell did he always end up in the middle of family drama when he worked really, really hard to stay as far away from family as he could. Okay so maybe it didn't help that he was so fried he hadn't even realized the library he'd chosen was attached to a busy high school that his cousin attended. DUH.
Ry sighed when Ali shot out of her seat and started tossing her things into her pack. Well, at least he wasn't going to be the one storming out first and making a scene. He could just follow her out quietly or even better, maybe just hang out after she'd gone and get some research done like he'd planned.
When the teenager leaned in and angry whispered her threat the hunter's eyes actually grew wide in surprise before he recovered his 'I dun give a shit'. Cool, that was all he was asking for. To be left alone. He pasted a self-satisfied expression on his handsome face and watched her whirl out of the room like a thunder storm, his eyes going blank as she turned the corner to disappear. Ryder just stood there dumb-founded. The sort-of smirk he was wearing dripped off his face when he realized he'd just threatened violence to his younger cousin. Well, he'd practically threatened her.
And then her panicked voice broke through the fog of bemusement and he grabbed up his pack and sprinted over to her, dropping the bag and immediately moving to inspect the hand she was cradling against her middle. "What the hell did you do, Ali?" Yes, the words seemed harsh but the tawny haired young man's voice was laced with all kinds of concern and remorse.

Allison looked up at her cousin, not really sure what to say. How was she to answer a question like that. It was kind of obvious what she had done. She sighed and whispered "I punched my anger out on the wall instead of your face." she said, her eyes averting to the ground to avoid the look on his face. She didn't know what the other kids were thinking, or how what they were yammering about now but they were sure giving them weird looks. She finally grew hot underneath all the weird stares and shouted "He's my cousin you boobs!" earning yet another round of shushes. But she didn't care. She didn't want word getting back to Scott about another man being all over her.
High School after all was a rumor mill and rumor mills were nasty things that could either build up your reputation or break it down. And Allison on both hands, didn't want either of that to happen, she wanted to stay invisible with her lover because the less she was on radar the less she was on her freaking cousins radar, and that made her more happy. Allison tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to come but they were emerging faster and she looked up at her cousin with pleading eyes. "Help." she said quietly.

Ryder had meant to hurt his cousin for bringing his daughter up when she had nothing to do with what was going on, but he'd never wanted it to be a physical ache. Though the young hunter was lost and nearly always half in the bottle, one thing he was not was the kind of man that would ever intentionally hurt a woman.
Unless of course that woman was his fiancé and she was trying to kill him...
Steeling himself even though the inner reverie kicked him in the gut with all the force of a Mack truck, Ryder bent down to grab her things and flung them over his shoulder with his own pack, and then wrapped an arm around her slim shoulders in order to steer her out of the library. Ry ignored Allison's comment about punching him in the face, (he deserved as much) as well as the whispers from others eaves dropping, but her shrieking outburst drew a husky chuckle out of her cousin. "Boobs?" The smirk on his face melted off quickly when he saw her pain, and so the young man quickly ushered her out into the hallway where he could talk above a whisper.
"Let me see it Ali." Ryder held his hand out for the appendage Allison was holding against her middle, and he looked up into her tear-moist eyes. "I promise I won't hurt you."
Of course he wouldn't. Sure, he was going through tough times but family was still family. Even if they were bratty younger cousins that wanted to stick there noses where they didn't belong.
"Can you move your fingers? You think it's broken?"
Post by Allison Argent on Sept 10, 2013 9:04:51 GMT -5
Allison could hear the snickers and laughter as they left. Her cousin was being so nice to her now, she was kind of cautious because of it. When they got outside of the library he asked to see her arm. She looked up at him, not sure if she should let him touch it, but when he promised that he wouldn't hurt her she showed him her hand, wincing in pain. "It hurts to move, I don't wanna move it anymore then I have to." she said quietly. If anything she wanted her boyfriend holding her and comforting her right now, but she would settle for her cousins comfort too.
Allison looked away, trying to get rid of the thoughts in her mind. She knew that one of these days she'd have to tell her family that she wasn't like them, but today wasn't that day. Allison wondered what her mother would do in this situation. She would probably cut off her arm, or just act like nothing was wrong, but Allison wasn't that strong, or insane. "Ry...why was my mother nuts?" she asked him. She wasn't sure if anyone in the family viewed her mother that way besides her, but she wanted to get answers anyways. "Or am I the only one who noticed she was a little on the off side?"
