Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. The loud sound of an alarm clock going off in the early morning hours. Scott rolled over in bed, groaning because of the disturbing little machine. He sleepily reached over and hit the snooze button, it was only Saturday why was his alarm clock going off on a Saturday morning? Scott quickly opened his eyes and lifted his head to look at the time, the clock read 8:31. Then Thursday night came bak to him, he had volunteered to work at the animal shelter on Saturday morning. He rolled out of bed and gathered some clothes together, as he did so, Scott wondered if his mom was up yet and the loud noise downstairs confirmed his question. Scott had to flinch a little because he heard his Mom's cell phone ring loudly. Scott got back to what he was doing and walked down the hall into the bathroom to get a quick shower before he had to leave.
About 20 minutes later, Scott trudged downstairs and saw his mom, Melissa sitting down at the kitchen table, talking on her phone. He wanted to make sure his mom knew he was there by opening the fridge to grab the container of orange juice. Melissa looked up at her son's quiet approach, and she sort of half-smiled, he know that she was still a little disappointed in him by keeping his werewolf secret from her for so long. Scott finally spoke up after some awkward silence between them. "Mom, I'm going to work today, so I'll see you later." Melissa hung up her phone and walked over to give Scott a long hug and a peck on the cheek. "Be careful, Scott." He smiled and nodded his head and set off by himself to work.
As the sixteen quietly walked into the animal shelter, and found that his boss was waiting on him with an old Labrador that needed his monthly shots for his broken leg the dog had a few months ago. As Scott gave the dog his shot and sent him on his way, he noticed that there was someone sitting alone, with a small dog in their lap. The dog looked up at Scott and started growling at him, Scott could feel his inner canine begging to come out but he just pushed him away and walked behind the service desk to wait for the person to stand up and give him the dog's name and illness or injury so he could copy it down.
