After her disasterous start, Emma could not believe the Karlie would even CONSIDER letting her work at Cake and Bake. During her interview, flour, sugar and other various sugary goodies covered the tables and floors of the bakery, not to mention Emma who was covered all those things combined. Through tearful begging, she asked Karlie to give her a chance, just one chance to prove she could do it. And somehow, Karlie had found it in her heart to allow the young girl to start small. She would work the counter, take orders and bring the sweetness out to the customers, but she would only bake under the tutelage of Karlie and they would be starting VERY slow. Emma was quick to thank her and run home to tell Kara that evening, who merely laughed at her clumsy sister who claimed to be the newest baker at Cake and Bake. Everyone KNEW Karlie was meticulous and took her baking incredibly personally, and the thought of Emma getting into that kitchen was doubtful to many. But Karlie promised to try and be patient and show her how it was done.
The baking was rarely done on an open day but today was not an ordinary day. Karlie had been busy with the baby (which was usually Emma’s job) but today, the sweet little bundle of joy was being anything but sweet. Crying until it’s lungs should have burst, Karlie decided to take them on a walk to help soothe the cries. She left the bakery under the watch of the bubbly 20 year old, Emma, who fantasized about this so many times before. She would do a perfect job and Karlie would gladly let her take over the back instead of always working the front. “I’ve left some cupcakes in the oven to cook. I should be back before they burn, but Emma, listen carefully. If I am NOT back in 20 minutes, you need to put on gloves and pull them from the oven to cool…. Do you understand? Gloves… cool….” Emma nodded gleefully, making the mental note and bouncing excitedly. Doubtfulness filled Karlie’s expression and she stopped to speak one more time before she stepped outside. “Gloves… cooling rack.. that’s it…”. The sound of an upset little one broke the thick air , “ I got it! Gloves … cooling rack… BYE!”. The sound of the door swinging shut gave Emma a surge of excitement as she went around and began wiping off all the counter tops. She did this in a hurry, and then rushed back to the back to wait for the cupcakes to be done. Time ticked slowly down, and after what seemed like an eternity, the sound of the front door bell jingled as it was open. Emma sighed assuming that it was Karlie, already back from her walk.

“Be right there Karlie! The cupcakes are almost done!” . She was about the grab the baking gloves when she realized that a dark headed person walked past the front counter and not the petite blonde. “Oh CRAP!” she thought, knowing Karlie’s policy about greeting the customers when they walk in. Throwing off the gloves in a hurry she rushed out the swinging door with a large cheerful grin,
“ HI! Welcome to Cake and Bake… Sorry about that! I thought you were the owner! What can I get you!?”
