Turning the Page to a New Life ~OPEN~

Angel had enrolled two weeks ago into the Beacon Hills High School, but she hadn't bothered going in those two weeks since she needed to find somewhere to stay until she could find a cheap enough apartment. She had stayed at one of the shelters for a few days but she didn't feel safe there. She slept at one of the churches for a few nights until she was found out and was threatened that they would call child services on her if she didn't leave. She found an abandoned house and decided to stay there until she could really figure something out and has been staying there for the last week. She's bought some food and just keeps everything that she owns in the basement where she can get to it if she needs to bug out quickly. Technically she shouldn't even be in school since if the police really wanted to check schools for her name, they would be able to find her and drag her back to the hellhole that was supposed to be a temporary home for her. But she needed free food, and an education to graduate and get a suitable job, plus she didn't own a computer and doubted the library would let her take all of her online classes on their dinosaurs of computers.

At least she was almost 18 and she wouldn't really need to worry about being forced to go back, but she was still apart of the system whether she liked it or not since no one had really bothered to even consider adopting her. Yeah she could be a pain in the butt, but she had been put into some crappy foster homes so of course she wasn't going to act like the perfect child. She sighed audibly as she made her way through the school parking lot. She had been lucky to find a small apartment at least a little close to the school so she wouldn't entirely need a car right away. Maybe she could find someone to carpool with or something and then she wouldn't have to walk to school everyday.

She looked at the looming building that was getting closer to her as she walked towards it. It was a nice looking school to say the least, but it would feel like a prison until three in the afternoon. She hoped to make some friends that day, but who knows what would happen. She tugged on her jean jacket, her messenger bag slung across her torso and making the jacket snug against her in two spot. She pulled the bottom ends to make them a little bit more symmetrical, subconsciously making herself more presentable for her first day. She wasn't nervous, but it was definitely going to be an experience.

She pushed open one of the door and walked up the short flight of steps, remembering how to get to the office from when she had enrolled she walked towards it, taking her time and keeping her head up high, her walk confident. Quite a few people turned to look at her as she walked pass but she paid most little to no attention as she reached the main office and walked through the door. She walked briskly to the front desk where she met a lady with glasses that were just barely falling off the tip of her nose.

"Hi, I'm here for my schedule and such. I enrolled a couple weeks ago if you remember. My name's Angel Ryder" she says, flipping her hair over her shoulder to get her attention, and anyone else's. The lady looked up at me and nodded, fixing her glasses so that they were further up on her nose before turning to her computer, the glasses sliding down again.

"Yes. I'll just print out your schedule really quick and then I can see if I can get someone to show you to your locker and classes." she says as she typed away before clicking a few things and then the sound of a printer went off. She hurried to go and get it and then brought over two papers.

"Here's a map of the school and your schedule. Your locker number and combo are at the top. And..." she explained, pointing to each one and handing the two papers over before looking around the office for something, or someone.

"Hey you. Yes. Can you be so kind as to show this young lady around to her classes?" the secretary said as she pointed to some kid. She herself turned to see whom would potentially be showing her around.

She couldn't believe this, somehow hearing it in a pediatrician's office didn't quite make her feel any better about the whole situation. Anastasia Conley was tempted to just be in denial about it, but it was rather hard to do so when she felt like she could smell somebody's juicy fruit from a mile away. UGHS, this was not how she imagined her school year in America. The young girl hadn't had a secret this big since the moment she realized that she really had no idea if gullible was in the dictionary or not, and let it be known that's not something that she shared with people either. What was she going to do when she went back to South Africa for the summer? Then again, Ana supposed it didn't really matter since her parents shipped her off in the first place, her family wouldn't even notice if something was wrong with her, too busy with...whatever it was they were busy with.

Nevermind that though, she had the Haywoods to deal with at the time being, although maybe they were too busy with their own lives as well. She was so tempted to put all the blame on Melanie, she just had to dare her to go out and spent those ten minutes in the woods. It was bad enough that she was the exchange student who got bit on her first night here, it would be an entirely different situation if they thought she was a freak. Maybe not though, nobody had thought Edward Cullen was a freak, well, the boys did but that was besides the point, that was just utter jealousy on their part! Yeah, that was it, she'd figure this though, she totally have this down and figure out...right after school, that is. But the more she thought about it, the more she didn't want to think about it. Although there was nothing to distract her.

It seemed that Moria had been absent lately, somehow who the young girl had been hoping would turn into a friend, but it was kinda hard to do so when they seemingly kept on missing each other, and class also. And then, an idea struck her. She had just bought a huge pack of sticky notes, like Cosco sized sticky note packs. And she had a sharpie, clearly she should just write gullible on them and then post them on the ceilings, of every class room and bathroom and locker room that Beacon Hills High had to offer. This sounded like a genius plan, something that she would actually feel the need to put some form of effort into since well, it wasn't school work that teachers had in mind, but who needed to be technical here?

Her mind had been so caught up in this plan that she had stupidly crashed into an upper classmen on the way to the front door, and the look that they gave her was probably enough to kill a man or her, really. Although maybe she had needed that, because she needed to stop by the front office and in her current state, she might have just have walked on by without handing over some letter to explain Melanie's absence, as well as missing the first two periods. Great, that only made her feel like a messenger dog and already, it was a sure enough sign that she didn't quite really want to be here either, but if she started flunking, Ana felt like that might actually bring the wrath of her parents down on her and here they were all the way in a different country, 'Be the good citizen that you can be, Ana, you're still human after all'. Well, almost.

Wandering in now, she made her way lazily to the front office and to the front desk, attempting to ignore the hustle and bustle going on around her. Just blend in, maybe she would just be mistaken for a statue or a piece of artwork, handing off the letter, Ana thought she was free to go when, she heard words: 'Hey You.' Something inside of her told her to not look, to not engage and yet, there she went, chocolate brown eyes glancing over towards where the voice from, and suddenly found herself with a job, "What?" she asked stupidly. Show her around? The young girl glanced over to the other person, another girl, possibly her age, blond, pretty, wearing a wolf shirt. Ana wondered if there was another reason for that shirt, but there was something else, "But...I'm the exchange student." As in, do you really want a foreigner to show the new girl around seeing as she was just as new? Something told her thought that wouldn't get her out of this.

[Resalia]

Magic Heals Me. Magic Breaks Me.

It had taken some convincing from Caden - actually, make that a lot of convincing from Caden - but Resalia had eventually scumbered and agreed to attend Beacon Hills High School. She was apprehensive about the whole idea of school since she had been home schooled all her life, but Caden had raised the point that she had to appear normal. That was the whole reason they had moved to Beacon Hills, to be normal, and so that was the reason Resalia was trudging through the corridors towards the main office. Normal. Completely normal. Completely human.


Several times Resalia was shoved roughly to the side, making anger course through her, but the small voices in her head urged her to keep moving. They weren't her voices, they were voices from ghosts, and though most of the time they comforted Resalia, at that moment she wanted nothing better for them to be gone. She could have demanded them to leave, but the sinking feeling in her stomach told her she would need the ghosts. She had never had proper human contact before - except for Elliot and Caden - and so she doubted her day was to go well.


She kept her head down to avoid eye contact with people. She slunk around the shadows, her dark clothes allowing her to blend in with ease. She kept her defensive stance, shoulders hunched, arms folded and hood pulled up. No one bothered her except for the rare passerby shooting her a curious glance.


She sighed heavily and began climbing a flight of stairs. She wondered why she had been forced to attend high school when Elliot was allowed to remain at home. They were the same age, so surely he should have been there with her? Sure, there was the slight complication that Elliot was, for the most part, some kind of zombie, but Resalia didn't see the issue. He had died and she had brought him back, big deal. He could do all that a living person could - except for the minor things like eating, drinking, sleeping, having a heart beat (okay, more than some minor things) - but Resalia was certain he could easily attend high school with her. He seemed human enough, though she had to admit sometimes he seemed a bit off or separated from his body. Still, having him with her would have been better than barging through this human infested building alone.


Resalia arrived at the office and saw a blonde girl standing by the desk. The girl appeared to be finished, not that Resalia cared, and so Resalia walked up to the secretary. Tapping her nails on the counter, Resalia waited with an expression of irritation for the secretary to look up. When the secretary did so she appeared flustered, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose.


"Oh, another new student?" the secretary said, looking puzzled, "I wasn't aware there were two new students." She began searching around the documents on her desk and Resalia placed a hand on her hip.


"My uncle rang up last week," Resalia said. "Caden Bridges, his name is." Caden wasn't actually Resalia's uncle, but it was the lie they had come up with to hide the truth about Resalia's situation.


The secretary frowned. "Oh, Mr Bridges? Yes, yes, I remember him. He said you wouldn't be attending until next Thursday though?"


Resalia huffed impatiently. "Well, I'm here now, is that a problem?"


The secretary shook her head hurriedly. "No, no, of course not! Let me just find your schedule and other bits of information. It's Resalia, isn't it?" Resalia nodded and the secretary rose from her desk to sort through a filing cabinet. After a moment she came back and clicked at the computer, printing something off. She handed Resalia the documents with a weak smile. "There you go, your schedule, classes, and locker information. We've actually got another new student that has just arrived here, so I'll just get you to go around with her. This young lady here will be showing you two around." The secretary pointed behind Resalia. Resalia nodded and turned around to look at the girl expectantly.

The secretary shook her head like it was nothing. "Oh but I'm sure you know your way around by now! You can also share some of your culture with the girl!" she said a little bit too enthusiastically before turning to Angel and then noticing another girl. Angel looked over at the girl, giving her a once over and then looked to the other girl. It seemed to her that she'd be leading them around instead of the one supposedly leading them, which she figured as she eavesdropped but pretended to be interested in looking through her messenger bag, putting her schedule inside to look at later before looking over the map in her hands.

She looked over to the girl that would be showing her around and held up the map, pointing to the cafeteria. "Lunch is here right?" she chuckled as she held out her hand. "Name's Angel. I think we'll be getting another girl to add to our little tour duo." she says as she nods over to the girl and the fumbling secretary. She adjusted her bag as it started to slip of her shoulder, tightening the strap a little bit so that it didn't slip again.

Was she really ready to be back in school? Sure she'd been there before, actually been in multiple schools because of how much she was tossed about into different homes. She hoped this would be her last before college, but she was also in a little bit of danger. If the police wanted to look for her and found a very familiar, exactly the same, name as a girl that was reported as a run away from 'very concerned and worried' parents, then they would be on her in no time. She needed to graduate, she kept telling herself, otherwise she wouldn't be able to get into college or find a good job. Maybe she could just own a bar. That could be fun. Watch people get drunk, get people drunk, have access to all the beer she wanted. She smiled a little at the thought, it certianly would be one of the most fun jobs with little high school education and no college education. She should just walk out now and keep hiding out until her 18th birthday. But what fun would that be? She could be the mysterious girl that just shows up at parties and no one really knows who she is. Oh well, she'd get through high school, then college, and then she'd travel the world. Find herself some kind of adventure on her own, or with someone.

"So what's it like here? Like all other high schools or is there something actually cool about it besides the people?" she asks, chuckling a little bit. All schools were the same to her, but hey maybe this one would be different. New town, new school, what could POSSIBLY go wrong?

[Resalia]

Resalia glanced down at her schedule and internally groaned at seeing science listed several times. She had always hated science, she far preferred English and history, and maths was bearable, but sitting through science had always been a struggle for her. Of course, the ghosts had tried to teach her anyway, telling her science was important and that she could only benefit from learning about it, but Resalia had fidgited and gotten easily distracted during the class. Maybe it was because she loved magic? Maybe some part of her found science and magic conflicting, which again didn't make sense since the ghosts had told her several times that her powers were probably due to evolution, or maybe somewhere in her family's history was a science experiment gone wrong. The ghosts told her that maybe if she pursued science, she could find out why she had necromancy powers. Or maybe the agency would know... but that was an option Resalia wasn't willing to take. She didn't need to know why she had magic, she was just thankful she had it.

Her lack of interest in science, however, did not mean she failed to learn. Growing up independantly with the ghosts had meant Resalia always relied on herself, or the ghosts, but then again she controlled them, so relying on the ghosts was more like relying on her powers to control the ghosts. She preferred it that way, only trusting herself, only relying on herself, it meant she didn't have to worry about others mucking up her life. Due to that, she strived to do well academically. She knew that the money her mother had earnt from fulfilling the twisted wishes of rich clients would only last for so long. Eventually the money would run out, and Resalia didn't want to have to stoop to her mother's level and satisfy rich clients with her powers. However, there was always the option of killing the rich clients and bringing them back... but Resalia was avoiding that option until she was certain the agency couldn't find her.

"Name's Angel," Resalia heard the blonde girl say.

Resalia walked over to the two girls and folded her arms. What to say, what to say. The ghosts had told her that first impressions were important, but what kind of first impression did she want to make? She didn't want these people prying into her life, nor did she want them to be clingy and follow her everywhere, so maybe hostile was the way to go. But then hostility could bring her unwanted attention to her, and that too was something she didn't want. Maybe she was just over thinking all of this? Finally Resalia decided the best way to go was to introduce herself, and so she said with her British accent, "It's nice to meet you, Angel, I'm Resalia."

There was a sigh from her left. "You know, that would have been great if it weren't for your cold tone. Your words sounded so forced, like, I totally totally think they'll believe you on the whole 'nice to meet you' thing." Resalia gritted her teeth, ignoring the ghost. The girls would think she was crazy if she suddenly started talking to thin air.

"Oh, shush, Petunia," said another ghost. "Resalia clearly tried hard there to be friendly. I think it was a great effort from her, not all of us are naturally charming and lovable."

“Thank you, Jemima! What a compliment! Me, naturally charming and lovable?” the first ghost, Petunia, said, waving her hand as if she was cooling herself off. Resalia rolled her eyes; some ghosts always liked to make a fuss in front of her.

“You, charming and lovable?” Jemima scoffed. “Don’t be ridiculous!” Before Petunia could come up with a response, Resalia tucked her fingers to the palm of her hand in a clenched fist and the voices slowly slunk away, as if carried off by some passing wind. Now without the distraction of the ghosts, she was able to focus on the people in front of her.

“So, where are we going first?” she asked the girls, forcing a smile. The look was foreign on her face and she felt awkward for trying. She felt awkward even just standing there with them. On the plus side, though, if she was to kill one of those rich people and bring them back to life for their money, she could always sacrifice one of these girls for the ritual. The thought made her feel a lot better about the whole situation.
