Jacob was having a bit of a strange day. Normally not all that big on sweets, he woke up this morning with a major sweet tooth. But since he had absolutely no baking skills whatsoever and Ryan was busy with the kids, he decided to slip out of the house to go surprise the family with cookies, cake, or some other sweet treat. He knew that they would really love that, especially Archer, but that boy would definitely have to be limited on his sweets since it made him "bounce off the walls." He smiled fondly and kissed Ryan goodbye, hugging Jaxon more than once because the boy just kept begging for more hugs. Not that Jacob minded, of course. He loved his children, each of them were very important to him and he hated that he spent time away from his family. But he also knew that his family would be fine. Slipping out the door, Jacob walked briskly to the Cake and Bake, knowing that they had some of the best sweets. Plus, he kind of needed a coffee since he was out and about. He opened the door and stepped up to the counter, closing his eyes as he smelled the sweet smells of baked goods and coffee. "Yes, uhm... I'd like two dozen chocolate chip cookies, please?" he ordered. "Oh, and could you get me a cup of coffee while you are at it?" Jacob wasn't all that picky about his coffee, though he never drank it black. The worker handed him his coffee and Jacob moved to sit at a small table, waiting for the cookies to be boxed and brought to him. He loved how they would make them fresh. He sipped the coffee, a grin on his face. He couldn't wait to see his childrens' happy faces when he came home with cookies!

It had only been a few days since he moved to Beacon Hills, and yet here he was already in a routine of coffee every few hours. However, since the town was smaller than some, he didn't mind making the drive. He didn't even get the dirty looks the first two times that he had been there. Preston was glad to have to attention on something else for a change. Preston decided that he needed a cigarette, which for him was a rare treat, but the morning had not been going well for him.

The Realtor that he had wanted was just too busy, and out of town, and he didn't want to buy privately, because that just ended up being way too much work. So he choked down the smoke that kept making him cough, and went inside.

The shop itself was not busy, but there were a few people in line, among them a guy that he didn't know. He ordered cookies along with his coffee. Preston just shook his head. Worst paring. He would want something that had a nutty undertone, along with a hint of cocoa, to give it some sweetness without any sugar, and for a great pairing with the cookies. When he got to the table, he ordered his iced vanilla latte and got the man a different small coffee, that would better suit his desserts.

Preston walked over and sat the coffee down. "I'm Preston, and not to be a coffee snob by any means, BUT, if you want, this coffee would go so much better paired with one of the cookies that you had ordered. "

Jacob was sipping his coffee contently, feeling much better as the caffeinated beverage warmed his throat and slowly hit his system. He was slowly becoming dependent on coffee to function in the mornings. He was definitely not a morning person, and certain things had to be done in a particular order and fashion before he could even manage to drag himself out of bed. A kiss from Ryan (possibly more than that if he was lucky), a nice long shower, and a coffee before anyone other than Ryan could talk to him. Not that Jacob was a grump, but he just did not do mornings well at all. Luckily, even at a young age, the children had figured out that their daddy loved them, he just needed space to wake up in the mornings. He had obviously completed his morning ritual (which had been quite pleasurable this morning) and was functioning, but he always felt like he could use more caffeine. He sipped more of the warm drink in his hands, looking up in surprise as someone approached and brought his cookies, before settling back in to drinking his coffee peacefully. Jacob looked at the cookies wistfully, wanting one, but afraid to eat any before he saw his kids. They probably wouldn't notice, but he was was very good at making himself feel guilty. He was distracted from his thoughts when a man placed another cup of coffee in front of him. "Uhm... hello, I'm Jacob. Free coffee, huh?" he asked, his English accent obvious as he looked confused for a moment, contemplating whether to trust the man and try the coffee. Plus, the man did give him a reason to eat a cookie... or two. "Well, don't mind if I do!" he said with a slightly shy smile. His true, full smile was not seen often, usually around Ryan and the kids, but this shy smile was just as genuine. "If you'd like, I suppose my kids won't miss a few extra cookies," he offered, honestly glad to share, especially since the man had brought him coffee, a surefire way to make Jacob instantly like a person.

The guy looked a bit confused at to why he was getting a free coffee, but Preston didn't mind enlightening the other to the wonders of coffee pairing. It was great for most things, and helped cut back on needless things like sugar and creamer. Also coffee was a great segue into making new friends, and what else was there to do in such a small town?

"Yeah Jacob, like I said before, it will go great with the cookies, and no need for creamer or sugar."He took a sip of his own coffee, standing there, smiling as the guy took the coffee, and drank some of it.

"New in town?" It was obvious. Some of the people in town had finally started to warm up to Preston, and he had to think that it was somewhat due to the fact that he was no longer the topic of gossip in town.

Jacob offered him a few of the cookies, and something light a tasty to start the day was better than the gross breakfast burrito that was waiting for him back at his hotel. He took the offer as an invitation to sit with the other man, and helped himself to a cookie.

"These are great!" he exclaimed after taking a bite.

Preston seemed to be quite the forward person in comparison to Jacob's quiet nature. Jacob was a bit overwhelmed by it at first, because in the mornings he usually just dealt with Ryan and the kids. He also got nervous when it came to new people, but this man seemed to be quite friendly, so he hoped that he could relax around him. Jacob took a cautious sip of the new coffee, his eyes widening in surprise at the taste. He really liked it a lot! "Well, looks like I might have a new favorite coffee!" he exclaimed, a little more eagerly than he expected. Coffee was very important to Jacob and he was amazed to find one he liked without adding any cream or sugar. He smiled at the man before taking another drink from the coffee cup. He raised his eyebrow at Preston's question. "I've lived here in Beacon Hills since I graduated from high school in London, actually," he answered, laughing a bit at someone thinking he was new in town. Of course, the accent would throw anyone off, but he'd been around for a long time. He was probably never going to lose his accent which was fine by him. Jacob offered the man a cookie and smiled as he took one for himself. What the kids didn't know wouldn't hurt them, right? He took a bite of the fresh-baked cookie and smiled. Preston was right. They matched his coffee perfectly. "Thank you for showing me that I was choosing the wrong coffee," he said with a laugh, taking another bite eagerly.
