Stepping out of the metallic purple challenger, Jessica Coulter breathed a deep sigh and then headed for the front door of the seedy little bar. After driving all day, it only seemed natural to grab something cold to drink before finding someplace to bed down. And if it kept her from staring at blank hotel room walls and going insane? More the better. Maybe she'd even drink until some stranger was pretty and the ever present face of her past would diminish.
Yeah, like that would happen. She'd be more likely to win the lottery at this rate than to be that lucky.
Shifting her shades up on the top of her head as she stepped inside the dark bar, the slender brunette let her vision gradually adjust as she headed for the counter. Not paying attention to anything or anyone else, she took a stool and rubbed her face as she waited for the bartender to notice her. Old school rock played in the background and she almost grimaced as memories pounded into her already brittle calm.
Fuck a duck. Would time ever heal the wounds like everyone assured her they would?
Setting an elbow on the bar, Jessie leaned her chin into her palm and then closed her eyes. The dim lighting of the bar made her exhaustion rise and she felt like she might just fall asleep if everyone left her alone. It was probably a good thing she'd decided to stop for a break because she definitely was on her last legs. Probably had been for some time with the way she drove herself these days.
"Can I get you something, darlin?" came an unfamiliar voice and the huntress glanced up to find an elderly gentleman in front of her.
"Um... Yes, please... A beer.. anything you got in a bottle." she drawled out, sparing him a slight smile as she waited.
Reaching under the counter and into a cooler, the barkeep slide her a bud and then gave her a kind smile.
"Your looking a bit rough for the wear. Is everything all right?"
Chuckling a bit at that question, Jess was just about to answer when something from the corner of her eye made her shift and glance towards the back. What she saw froze her in her seat and she could only stare like she was seeing a ghost. A ghost in the form of ....
