Kirstin Meakin There's no telling that changing anything in your lifestyle can stop cancer Nikki!

Nikki Wynne I think it is both a lifestyle problem (within our control to some degree) and a chemical problem (not within our control).

Nikki Wynne We should goo straight to the source of the problem instead of putting a plaster on it. Half of the drugs we have do this.

Kirstin Meakin Agreed. So changing our lifestyles, for some people, wouldn't help. There's no way for us to alter our genetics. Those people born with a gene that causes cancer would still need something to treat it later down the line. They cant stop having a gene that causes cancer anymore than you can stop having a nose.

Nikki Wynne Are you suggesting that getting cancer is inevitable for some people? We may as well do what we can with what is in our control to prevent it as much as possible.

Kirstin Meakin As much as possible but yes. It is inevitable for some people.

Nikki Wynne Even for those who have an inherited gene for cancer, it is a 50/ 50 chance

Kirstin Meakin Yes but unless you have reason to suspect its there or test for it you might never do stuff and there are many different genes that cause cancer and not all of them can currently be tested for. Even if you're found to have the gene some people will then ignore it and hope it goes away rather than treating it.

Nikki Wynne Then maybe that in itsself is reason enough for everyone to try to live healthier lifestyles

Kirstin Meakin Okay Nikki but the healthiest person in the world could get cancer and it wouldn't be anyones fault.

Nikki Wynne Fault? I don't recall blaming anyone for anything. Everyone has a different definition of healthy also so it is difficult

Nikki Wynne '^^ It isn't anywhere near as simple as that, and surely combatting cancer should start, yknow, before you get cancer. Otherwise what is the point?
