Give a girl a heart attack why don't ya,

Work wasn’t too bad, but there had been a few accidents of course, and she got hot coffee spilled on her today. After she had made someone their coffee, they had accidentally spilled it on her and that just was not cool at all. She was told she should go to the hospital to get it looked at since she sort of burned, but she’d be fine. She knew it. She could put some herbs and stuff on it later. She was told to go take a brake and got the burn cream from the First Aid kit, and placed some on and bandaged her arm up.

 Today just wasn’t that great of a day when it came to work. Maybe tomorrow would be better. At least she hoped that it would be. She went back to work for the next few hours then after her shift was over she got herself a German chocolate cake. They were her favorite, and a cup of coffee Kahlua coffee, and slipped into one of the booths. She stuck around just in case the place gets swamped and someone doesn’t come in. She was charitable like that at times. She may struggle between light and dark with her magic’s, but one thing is for sure she does have a big heart at times.

She wondered what her friends were up to and if her sister finally managed to leave home. She hadn’t spoken to her in a while. Onyx hadn’t heard from her eldest brother in sometime now either. One thing was for sure her family didn’t seem all to close. Her best friends had moved with her to Beacon Hills a whole group of them, but the ones that didn’t move with them she hadn’t heard from in ages.

It is funny how sometimes things change. She didn’t know if it was for the better or the worst, but she knew she had more fun in this town then she had back home. The weather was always nicer too. She didn’t really miss the snow they got in Maine that much either…. It was always cold near the water there and even thought it was October and Halloween was upon them the beaches were still fairly nice and she enjoyed that a lot her and her girls would have to make a pit stop there soon. So there she sat at her work place thinking of things she needed to do. Sipping her coffee every now and again pulling paper out of her purse and a pen, and picking and eating her cake with the other hand.

She wasn’t sure if she was going out for Halloween yet or not or staying in for some passing out of the candy and horror movie marathons. Partially she didn’t know what she was up to since she wasn’t sure if werewolves go out for Halloween or sit in the house and brood about werewolf costumes not being realistic. She didn’t know. She really didn’t know if she wanted to be around Jack and his pack on Halloween if they were going to be broody pricks. She was lost in her thoughts making her list of things to get for Halloween and what not. Even if she wasn’t going to be home, she’d leave candy out for the kids and would decorate. She was lost in her thoughts she didn’t even notice someone sat across from her.

She looked and up and jumped. " Give a girl a heart attack why don't ya." She had been startled and that wasn't an easy thing to do. She didn't expect anyone to come sit with her. She had nearly spilled her coffee. IF she had that would be the second coffee spilled on her today and that just wouldn't be cool. She already had her arm bandaged up.

Moira's blue eyes stared at the Cake and Bake entrance sign wearily. She needed coffee, and she needed it now. All the bones in her body felt as if they would simultaneously collapse if she stayed awake any longer, and it had gotten to the point where the only thing Moira felt like doing was sitting down and falling into a coma. Honestly, she wasn't quite sure how she'd made it to the bakery without getting hit by a truck or something. She was not really a coffee person, but since she did actually need enough strength to make it back to her Aunt's house in one piece, coffee was more appealing than kipping on the pavement.

Taking a deep breath, Moira pushed the bakery door open. The smell of pies, muffins and other baked treats wafted past her, making her mouth water. She walked up to the counter and ordered a large mocha, along with a slice of today's special; blueberry coffee cake. Within minutes her order was ready, and Moira practically snatched her coffee off the counter, taking a big gulp of the steaming drink. Unlike most bakery's Moira had been to, they'd gotten her order right, and the coffee was delicious too. She could already feel herself becoming more awake as she took another sip. Moira frowned to herself. It wasn't like her to be this tired, she hadn't felt this tired, this weary, in ages. In fact, she hadn't been this tired since...Moira felt her stomach twist. Well. Since the accident.

Her hands began to shake, and Moira tried to steady her uneven, sharp breathing. 'Come on, get a grip!';She though to herself in dismay. She needed to sit down. She pulled out the chair nearest to her, and sat down. After a moment or so, her breathing returned to normal and her hands ceased trembling. Moira stared at her slice of cake miserably. It had been a year, a whole year since the accident...and yet she still started hyperventilating every time she thought about it, every time someone would mention it.
"Give a girl a heart attack why don't ya." A voice came from across the table, making Moira jump. "Oh sorry, I didn't realize was, um, sitting here." Moira stammered. "I mean, I didn't think you would mind if I sat here." The girl opened her mouth to respond, but Moira rushed to explain herself. "It's just I sometimes have these, uh, anxiety attacks. I just needed to sit down for a second to catch my breath, sorry to bother you I'll move..." Kicking herself for becoming completelyunsocial over the summer, Moira made to take her coffee, her slice of cake and herself to a different table.

The girl who had sat now situated across from her had startled Onyx. It wasn’t something she expected, but this made it known to herself she had to be more on guard. However, this experience wasn’t as bad as the one in the woods when her friend Sarah went missing and the people with arrows hunting something now that night was more startling then the girl before her. Onyx seemed to make her jump out of her skin when she had spoke. Onyx’s own heart beat slowing down to its normal pace. She stammered out her response and that made Onyx wonder if she had really startled the girl that much. She would feel bad if she did.

Onyx was going to speak, but quickly closed her mouth since the young woman before her continued on speaking and tried to explain herself. Onyx took a sip of her own coffee and listened carefully as the girl seemed to be rushing to explain at first the girl stated that she didn’t think Onyx would mind and it made her arch a brow. She had startled the girl by speaking…. Now she seemed to know that Onyx had been there. Onyx’s brows knitted together in confusion hazel eyes fixated on the girl. She seemed to be explaining more that she had anxiety attacks and sometimes she has to sit down. That was understandable. Sometimes things like that come up. It made her curious as to what triggered the girls attack.

She said she would move. It seemed as if she had calmed down a little more to be able to move after explaining herself. “No it’s okay you can stay. You just startled me when you sat down. Didn’t expect it. No worries it’s all good.” Onyx assured. “I have never seen you in here before. New to this place?" She asked as if she were a curious kitten. “I am Onyx.” Said introducing herself. She didn’t want to be rude and not introduce herself. “It must be horrible to get such an attack. I’m sorry that you get them.” She mentioned between sips of coffee. “Have you seen anyone about them?” She was pretty sure there had to be some kind of meds or techniques to hinder them. It would suck to have them in public places all the time especially if some people aren’t as understanding

    Feeling slightly awkward, Moira stood up to move to another table, but the girl stopped her. “No it’s okay you can stay. You just startled me when you sat down. Didn’t expect it. No worries it’s all good.” Moira thanked the girl, then sat back down, setting her coffee and cake on the table. "I have never seen you in here before. New to this place? I am Onyx.”  Moira gave her a small smile. "I'm Moira, it's nice to meet you." She took a small bite of her blueberry coffee cake, then continued talking. "I moved here a few days ago to live with my aunt. She's lived here for years, she works at a local bar in town...I think it's called Sophia's or something." She took a sip of her coffee, and watched as Onyx did the same. It was hard to believe that a few minutes ago, Moira had been close to collapsing on the ground. Her senses were alert, and she was wide awake. She made a mental note to try and drink coffee more often. 

    “It must be horrible to get such an attack. I’m sorry that you get them. Have you seen anyone about them?”
 Moira blushed a little, and looked down at the table. "Yes, actually. My uh, shrink used to give meds for the attacks, but she was hoping to get me off them now that's almost been a year since..." She paused, and rerouted her thoughts. "Well, since they started. Also, she thought the side effects were hurting me more than the meds were helping me." Moira shuddered slightly as she remembered those first few nights after starting on the pills, every nightmare, every face in her dreams accusing her...She subtly shook her head to lose the memories that were racing through her mind, and looked up at Onyx. "Thanks again for letting me sit here. How long have you lived here in Beacon Hills? Do you have any family here?" She asked cheerfully.

Moira sat back down after Onyx had said that she could stay and that it wasn’t a problem at all. “No problem.” Onyx had stated closing her notebook of things she should do soon. After Onyx had introduced herself so did the girl before her. She said her name was Moira. “Pleasure to meet you as well, Moira.” she said with a smile. She listened to Moira as she stated that she did just move here so that explained why Onyx hadn’t seen her about before.

She said she lived with her aunt and the aunt works at one of the local bars. She thought it was Sophia’s. “Ahh I don’t think I have been in that one,” Onyx stated, but she has heard whispers about it being a hunter’s bar so was this girls family hunters? Onyx doesn’t know if the whispers are true or not, but it was something she has heard in passing and Onyx had been hit in the woods with an arrow from a hunter a while back. She has been long healed since then, but made a mental note not to go in the woods after a drinking binge trying to find a friend.

Moira seemed to blush when Onyx apologized and said it must be hard dealing with them attacks and getting them. She herself couldn’t imagine getting them. Onyx listened as she said it had been almost a year now that she has been on meds, but her shrink wants to try to get her off them. “Ahhh” Onyx comments, as she continued to listen taking a sip of her coffee every now and again. It made sense if the side effects were more harmful then helpful. She is shocked the shrink didn’t try different meds or different coping methods.

She had thanked her again. “You’re welcome it’s no problem.” Onyx had told her. She listened to what Moira asked. “I have been here since I was eighteen, so about three years give or take a few months. My best friend and I moved here to get away from our families and it has been nice so far, but there are some weird animal attacks. So I’d advise you be careful especially after dark.” Onyx warned. It really was nice to get away from her mother, but hoped that her sister has now escaped her mothers clutches.

    “I have been here since I was eighteen, so about three years give or take a few months." The girl replied, "My best friend and I moved here to get away from our families."  Moira gave the girl a smile. "That's a reason I can understand. It's sort of the reason I came here, to get away..." She trailed off, taking a moment to admire the view outside from one of the windows. "I just needed a fresh start. Things in my old town were getting a little...hectic, you could say." Hectic was an understatement. All the whispering as she walked by, all the dirty looks,all the accusing notes that would find their way into her locker... It was enough to make anyone get up and skip town. "I tried to sort out my problems there, I wanted more than anything for things to go back to normal." She turned back to Onyx, her face slightly sad. "But after a while you realize that no matter how hard you try, things can never go back to the way they were. You can deal with it, or you can leave. Leaving seemed like the better option in my case." Onyx listened patiently, her face sympathetic. "But if I had to move anywhere, I'm glad I moved here. It doesn't seem too scary." Moira joked, grinning. "I've only been here once or twice when I was little, we don't really visit my Aunt anymore. I've never understood why, though. I guess I'll have to ask her, now that I've moved in with her. How are you finding it here?"


    'It has been nice so far, but there are some weird animal attacks. So I’d advise you be careful especially after dark.” Onyx warned." Moira felt a shiver run down her spine. "Animal attacks? What kind of animal attacks?" She asked, concerned. A mountain lion? If not that, then what? "They haven't been too serious though, right? I mean...nobody's died from these attacks, have they?" Moira looked shocked at Onyx's response. There had been deaths. And a recent serial killer?! But not just any serial killer, of course, but one that strangled their victims, then slit their throats. Dread and disbelief washed over her. Why wouldn't Aunt Audrey tell her about this before she moved her? Better yet, why would she and Moira's parents then still believe that her niece moving to a town with a rising death toll would be a good idea?! "Well, I'm sure the sheriff's department is doing everything they can to stop these attacks. I just hope no one else gets hurt." Still feeling confused at her Aunt and worried about the attacks, Moira lifted her coffee cup to take another warm sip, only to find that her previous sip had been the last of the coffee. Her face fell. "Seriously, what do they put in this coffee? That was probably the best cup of coffee I've ever had. And I'm not even a coffee kind of girl." With great aim, Moira threw the cup at the bin. It landed directly inside, and she punched the air.

    BZZZT! Moira's phone buzzed in her pocket. "Sorry, once sec." She pulled it out, and read the text. It was from her Aunt.

    -'Hey kiddo! Make sure you're home for dinner. I ordered take out from a local Thai place, thought we could celebrate your first proper night in Beacon Hills. Oh, and I've got a surprise for you when you get back. Just keep an open mind, ok?'

Moira pocketed her phone once more. "That was my Aunt, she just wanted to make sure I'd be back for dinner...My cue to leave." She said apologetically. She stood up, making sure to pick up her purse as she did. "It was really nice meeting you, Onyx. Maybe we could hang out sometime?" She asked hopefully. Pleased at making a friend in this new town, she walked out of the cafe happily.

Moira seemed to understand the reason for getting away and explained some of her own situation. “Sometimes fresh starts are good for a person especially when things can’t get sorted. Sometimes things cannot go back to the way things were too many variables have changed. “It has been pretty good for Onyx thus far except that night in the woods. She has met some awesome people in passing around town. She explained how it doesn’t seem too scary, and Onyx thought yet, but wasn’t going to say that aloud. She listened to Moira explain how she has only visited here a few times and asked how she liked it.

 “It is pretty neat. I love it here, and I’d wonder why your parents wouldn’t bring you here to visit too.” It would make her wonder if she had relatives, her parents didn’t like to visit. “Maybe your parents and she had some sort of falling out or something. “ Onyx said with a shrug of the shoulders. Wasn’t her business really, but was a suggestion.

She had indeed seemed concerned by the animal attacks… “Some say its mountain lions, but who knows for sure. The police are handling it, but it is still wise to travel in groups and be aware of things around you especially at night.” Onyx told her. “I heard some people have died.” She tried to be truthful and wasn’t one to skirt around the subject or sugar coat things. She didn’t feel people needed to be babied in such a manor.

“I hope your aunt explains more.” She didn’t want to frighten the girl or anything at all. Moira seemed to enjoy her cup of coffee. Her comments would indeed please Onyx’s boss. “ Well I suppose it depends what kind you had ordered, but this place is indeed one of the best in town and the prices aren’t too shabby.” it was the truth. She loved this place the best and it wasn’t because she worked here. So many flavors to choose from. Moira had thrown her cup, it went in the bin, and she fist bumped the air. It made Onyx arch a brow. “Nice shot.” She commented.

Moments later Moira’s phone buzzed off, and Onyx let her accepted it. Who was she to stop her a few moments later and Onyx was told it was her aunt. “Can’t blame her for checking in on you and making sure you get home for dinner. It is nice to have an aunt that is so caring.” She said with a grin. It was Moira cue to get home… She defiantly should before it gets dark.

“It was a pleasure to meet you too… Sounds like a plan. I work here so you’d def know where to find me. “Onyx pulled a paper out of her notebook and wrote her number down to give to the Moira before she left the shop happily.
