The pain in her voice was more than his wolf could bare. It whimpered and whined, pleading for the man to give it is freedom. Unable to handle her distress, the man inside felt his heart break a bit more and he knew that he was lost when her eyes met his. There was no power on earth that could have broken him like the torment he saw there and, while he knew it was folly and he knew he'd pay for it, the warrior finally acknowledged the truth in that moment.
She owned him, heart, soul and body.
There would never be another for him and there was no amount of distance that would ever ease the ache she, and only she, put in his heart. Without her, he was nothing more than a shell of a man and by her own profession, she felt the same. What sort of life was a half life like that anyways? He'd rather die than see any harm come to her but, by the gods, he didn't have the strength to walk away again. The first time had almost been the end of him and now, with her taste upon his lips again, he was in real trouble.
Especially with her looking at him like that and feeling her body against his in such an intimate way.
MATE, his inner wolf growled, snarling and snapping at the very idea of being separated from her again.
"Ah, lass... Dunchu know yer my heart and soul?" he whispered, leaning his forehead against hers and drawing her hard against his body, not letting her loose even though he knew he should. "Tis not whatchu think, love... I didn't leave ye willingly, you must believe that. I meant every word I said ta ya and I still do. Tis jest... My life is not mah own. If I had stayed with ye, it would have put ye in grave danger, love. I couldn't live with myself if anything happened ta ya because of meh. I thought.. I thought if I left ye alone.. You'd at least be alive and healthy, even if ye hated me..." he whispered, voice hoarse with his emotions. "I've spent months tryin ta find a way ta break me bond ta Nellie but have found nothing.. Shes a vindictive bitch, she is...."
