The drive was calm outside but blaring HELLRAISER inside the Impala as Dean followed the yellow painted line with his eyes and the vehicle. The highway stretched out before him like a never-ending black abyss and the hunter was sure at any moment it would swallow him whole. The road before him, both figuratively and literally, was a monster that had a gaping jaw and hundreds of razor sharp teeth. And no one would be there to hear him scream when it devoured him.
No one would likely care.
Why was Dean in such a somber, Sam-like mood? It was because the hunter was making the drive back to his little brother from a hunt he'd taken on alone...and had lost an innocent.
Damn vampires.
Why couldn't they all be as decent as Benny?
Feeling a slight vibration from the pocket of his worn dark brown leather jacket, Dean saw that he'd missed another call from Sam. Cursing, he turned down the volume on his MOTORHEAD and checked the time on the message. It had only been about a half hour and from the green signs lit up on the side of the highway he was just pulling into Beacon Hills now. Maybe he'd be able to catch him.
Hitting the call button on the device Dean phoned his brother and got an answer on the first ring.
"Heya Sammy. Yeah, yeah I know... I was supposed to be waiting for you in Beacon Hills." The older Winchester didn't want to admit to Sam that he hadn't been able to sit still waiting, so he'd taken on a case that should have been easy, but ended up much worse than he'd expected. "Listen, there's a pirate bar off the highway. You really can't miss the joint, it's straight out of the tropics with one of those big, black Jolly Roger flags waving out front. Meet me there in twenty. We can talk about it over a beer."
Dean ended the call before Sam could argue and hit the gas. He made it to the dive in 15 and was sitting at the bar with a beer before his younger bro set foot in the place.
