Shaking. Nervous. Sweaty. Things that Preston did not expect when he had been trying to plan this date with Pedro. He was typically a lot more calm about, well just about everything. His hands had been steady shooting a gun since he was 8. It was the first time that he had ever shot one, but he was taken out to a shooting range by a few of the hunters that he had been staying with. The cold metal felt right in his hand, and it was the only life that he had known. He remembered the kickback that it had given him, and how steady his heart had felt afterwards.
Hunting had always felt like that. Natural. Dating on the other hand, was something that he just was never good at. They had always ended up at super awkward places, and he never knew what to really say, and for him, if the previous day had left anything to be desired, it would have been the fact that they needed less awkward.
And it wasn't that Preston was uncomfortable in his own skin, or that he had a lack of confidence. It was just the fact that he had never really wanted something to work out before. Sure he had know the guy for a day. But that still made it much better than all of the other people that he had seen. They had only been for a few hours, and then it was back to the hotel, and then the next morning. Poof. He was gone.
He tried to think about how he feels when he is hunting. How that, if its time for him to go, he will go defending the lives of innocent people, and families. He takes a couple of deep breaths. Trying to find his center, trying to make it easier to make the phone call that he has been excited to make. Preston grabs his phone, and dials. His heart racing after each ring. "If there is a god please let him pick up." He takes another breath as it rings again.
