I shouted out I loved you but you’re not here, you're not here |
Eli listened to Derek's words, but was a little preoccupied by the cougar behind him. When he threw a rock in the bushes, she was half panicked, and half incredulous that he'd do that. Sure, they were more often scared of humans, but if they were provoked somehow, or starving... Elysia didn't like the idea of this, and the situation felt wrong. She heard a low growl from the bushes, and out came the cougar, looking quite unhappy. She gritted her teeth, and watched the cat move around to look straight at Eli. She knew from the look in its eyes that the cougar was locked on her. She anticipated the lunge, and dove out of the way of those terrible claws. She rolled a little, and was facing away from Derek, and at the cougar. It stared deeply at her, and she stared right back. Eli was sure Derek couldn't see her face, so she transformed a little, her eyes glowing their brilliant blue. She bared her teeth, making no sound so as to not arouse suspicion. The cougar did nothing except growl at her. She was afraid not of the cat, but of what would happen if she couldn't scare it off. She saw from the cougar's physique that it was indeed starving, probably because of habitat loss. Eli wasn't sure how far they were in the woods, but she was pretty sure it wasn't far enough for a cougar to live peacefully. Eli then saw the cat go for her again, and she wasn't quite fast enough this time. This time, the cat caught her on her right forearm, and its claws tore through the fabric of her hoodie, staining it with her blood. She cringed, feeling like an idiot for not being fast enough. Her mind had been too preoccupied with what Derek would think that she didn't notice the cat's pre-lunge 'tell'. She pressed her hand against her arm, stood up, and she spoke quietly. "Screw it." The cougar lunged again, but this time, Eli didn't move and she kicked it in the muzzle, sending it backwards a little. It snarled at her, and tried to flank her. She yelled at it, and the cougar went sulking off into the bushes. She breathed a sigh of relief, and didn't face Derek. She knew she'd get questions, and was preparing a bullshit answer. |
